A while back I told you that my husband was re-painting my kitchen for me and that I was going to do a little bid of re-decorating. I promised that I would post some pictures. I don't know why in the world that I haven't posted them yet.... This has been done for months! He has actually gone onto another project and has been working on re-doing our bathroom for a while now.
Anyway.... you all know that I really love the soft style of romantic home interiors, but I have to admit that I love a bright, colorful, kitchen. So you will all probably be a more than a little surprised as my kitchen is in what I call bright happy colors! The walls are painted light yellow on top and a little brighter yellow on the bottom part of the wall. I don't know why, but some of the pictures show the walls looking ivory or off white. But they are NOT! They are yellow. And in case I haven't told you this before, I love roosters and chickens! You may remember, this was my inspiration piece. This cute little chicken cookie jar!

I had the perfect kitchen table & chairs picked out that I found at a local boutique. I had been trying to get my husband down there to give it a look to see what he thought. He did finally get around to looking at it, but we left it that day and when I went back it had been sold. It was just precious. It was a painted white table with leafs that let down. The border of the table was painted with red & white checks and handpainted strawberries adorned the corners. I LOVED it! But the next time that I went back it had been sold. I was so disappointed. I thought about painting my table similar, but instead opted for the tablecloth for now. And I do love the tablecloth! It's bright & cheerful, just the look that I was going for in my kitchen. Here's a closeup of the tablecloth. I have lots and lots of other vintage tablecloths so I can switch out to other ones too. And who knows, Maybe I will be able to find aniother country kitchen table soon, but for now this will just have to suffice.

And I have several pattern sets of chicken plates! I switch them out all the time. Sometimes they grace the walls and sometimes they grace the table. Seems I am constantly switching out the plates putting what plates are on the wall on the table and the ones on the table, I hang on the wall! And then I will grab the set out of the kitchen cabinets and put them up for a while!
Recently Kohl's had their Fiestaware on sale for half off! I had to have this pitcher!
I don't know if you noticed the long neck rooster in the corner. But if you didn't.... well.... I just don't know how you could miss it with it's long neck and bright colors and all! Well, some would say he is ugly and would have passed him by. Me, I say he has character! And besides...I felt kind of sorry for him sitting all alone in the clearance isle of Ross. I mean what if no one else would love him? So, I had to bring him home. I got several comments on him just getting from the store to my car. And just so you know, yes, people liked him! When I brought him home my husband said "where in this world did you get that ugly rooster?" I told him " Ross....two bucks....cute isn't he?" Then he looked at him a while, shook his head and went on his way. But by the next day he said, "well, I think he will grow on me, he's so ugly that he's really is kind of cute!" My opinion too honey!
Here are some great little stacking boxes that I found to hold recipes and odds & ends.
Oh, I can't forget to show you my old stained glass with a pretty tulip design! I love stained glass windows! This is one among several that I won at auctions. It is an antique window. It's frame had seen its better days and was falling apart and broken so I asked my husband if he could somehow re-framed it and paint the frame red. I would have loved to been able to salvage the original frame, but it just was not possible. I think it turned out great! He added chains and hung it from the kitchen ceiling by my cuckoo clock that my husband gave me years ago. By the way...we have cuckoo clocks all over the house it seems! It gets really noisy around here and can take some a while to get use to the cuckoos!
I really do love how the stained glass window turned out! And eventhough it isn't hanging in front of a window so that light can shine through, there is still enough light that bounces off of the glass that it leaves shadows of the pebbled glass design bouncing on the walls. I love, love, love it!
The tulip design is a fairly common design, but still I love the colors! I have several of these old stained glass windows and would love to somehow incorporate them into a cabinet or something. Maybe that will be a project for later!
We replaced the kitchen lighting too!
And remember the tins that I showed you several posts ago? I found this red embossed metal shelf that they now perch on! Love that red color and the embossed tin!
You will never believe this but I found this great little hand painted sunflower on canvas bench at a yard sale!
And now you KNOW that No kitchen is complete without those huge & gigantic vintage wooden forks and spoons! They have been given a change of color and are now RED! They are hanging on my cabinets in the kitchen. Ok... go ahead, go ahead and laugh at them if you must! But for some reason I just can't seem to part with them!
Remember the great old tea car that I found? Well, remember that I was going to re-do it? Well, still not re-done.
My husband has done the prep work to re-paint it. He is just waiting on me to tell him what color I want him to paint it. So, it's me, I'm the hold up. Can't decide. He is ready, willing and able. Me, I can't decide.
I thought at one point about painting it similar to the table that I described above. You know, painted white, little red checks around the perimeter, with little strawberries or cherries somewhere in the border too. Then I thought some more and thought well maybe paint it yellow with some antique looking mustard or ochre looking color sort of blended in there and then paint some bright colored flowers on it. Then I thought, no.... maybe I should just paint it a solid color so that I can wheel it from room to room and use it all over the house. So I am not sure but it will probably just end up being painted a solid color like white or some sort of soft neutral green color. So, as you can see, I am still just pondering and pondering over it. Again and again.
But if you have any suggestions, I would LOVE to hear them!!!
Nothing like having even more ideas to choose from! I mean, jeeeeeshhhh! I may never decide. And truthfully, my husband is going to be off from work a bit and he has already started asking me...."have you decided yet about that tea cart?"
So glad you stopped in! Come back real soon!

I love everything. The roosters are just fabulous.
Love all your roosters! Even the one with the long neck! What color of yellow did you choose? I've been kicking around the idea of a yellow kitchen...Another question. How do you get your writing on your photos that you post? Thanks, Laurie
Barbara, I love all of your rooster stuff!! My kitchen is completely gutted right now, but as soon as it's done I plan on having a few rooster things in my new kitchen too!
I love your roosters and I love the red and yellow too. The long necked rooster well he's a keeper! But I love chickens and roosters too! Your tea cart would be beautiful in a mustard yellow or even red. You already know this but I will tell you again. I love your giant spoon and fork. Thanks for sharing those pictures. I enjoyed reading about your decorating and seeing the pictures to go along.
Barbara, you have a wonderful kitchen. I love that little red pitcher too! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and giving me this opportunity to see yours!
